Manners are a choice. Manners are a privilege, not a right. Manners reflect a respectful and a functioning system, where effort is recognized and rewarded according to established rules. Manners are social rules and ought to require all the actors to “play fairly.” Requiring only a subset of folks to be “polite” is fucking annoying, if for no other reason than it retards Tuckman’s stages of development by delaying conflict.

Conflict is necessary for establishing trust and growth.

Whenever feedback gets meta about things like manners and communication style–especially regarding those without status or power–you very likely have bigger problems to worry about.
